Dental Hygiene Degree Programs
According to the US Bureau of
Labor Statistics, dental hygiene is expected to be one of the fastest growing occupations
through the year 2012.
Dental hygienists clean teeth. They use increasingly complex machines to remove unwanted
deposits on teeth and also advise patients on how to maintain good teeth in the long
term. Hygienists may also take x-rays and are gradually taking over duties previously
assigned to dentists.
About half of all employed dental hygienists work on a part-time or flexible hour
basis. Weekend and evening work is common making the field perfect for those who
prefer creating their own schedules.
Dental hygiene is almost always taught in two-year vocational programs that concludes
with the required certification.
