Medical Billing & Coding Degree Programs

The medical industry has become so complex that filing and classification has become its own specialty with its own degree program at community colleges and vocational schools.

The nature of our health system dictates that insurance companies are basically responsible to oversee healthcare, but they do it without any employees of their own on site. Because of this, health coding and filing become especially important. In a career as a medical assistant, you must be able to interpret the work of the doctor or caregiver and translate it into language and classifications required by the insurer.

This is a discipline that until recently was taught through experience. But now filing and coding has become so important that employers seek it as a specialty when recruiting for even entry-level administrative assistant positions.
