Respiratory Therapy Degree Programs
Respiratory therapists often save
lives. It is their job to monitor patients' breathing and to assist when necessary.
The medical technicians who study respiratory therapy learn about the anatomy of
the entire body as it affects the lungs and breathing systems in the body. They work
with injured patients, patients undergoing surgery, and patients with breath related
diseases. For example, a trained respiratory therapist might be called upon to work
with a young asthma patient or an elderly patient with emphysema, pneumonia, or lung
cancer. These therapists work alongside doctors in many cases. They administer oxygen
when needed and do everything possible to make sure the patient keeps breathing.
