Surgical Technology Degree Programs
Surgeons and patients alike owe
a great vote of thanks to surgical technologists or operating room technicians. These
medical technicians are trained health care professionals whose schooling has prepared
them to be important parts of the team in the operating room. It is the surgical
technologist who makes sure the room is prepared and properly sterile. They know
the instruments needed for each type of surgery and see that the instruments are
in place and sterilized. They also make sure all the materials needed by anesthesiologists,
respiratory therapists, and nurses are in place and ready to use. The surgical technologist
is also the person who assists in preparing the patient for surgery.
